The game's plot is based on the film, in which Payton Westlake is a brilliant scientist who has created a synthetic skin that has the drawback of disintegrating after 90 minutes. However, a gang of criminals blows up his laboratory while searching for a document. Although everyone believes him to be dead, he actually survives, albeit with horrific burns over most of his body and enhanced strength thanks to an experimental treatment he receives at the hospital.
